RISD offers several types of on-campus living accommodations for about 1250 students that include traditional dormitories, apartment complexes, suite-style living, and residentially scaled houses in the neighborhood. The Office of Residence Life manages the daily life in all of these facilities, with the aid of Resident Assistants (RAs).
Resident Assistants are upper class students who are trained to act as mentors and advisors to the students living in their area of supervision. Resident Assistants receive their room at no charge as well as a credit toward their meal plan and several other benefits. Four full-time professional staff live on campus and share a rotating duty schedule so that someone is on call 24/7.
