Doran Delivers Lecture on Environmental Comics at Colby

Thomas Doran (Assistant Professor, Literary Arts + Studies) gave a lecture on, Reading Comics in a Time of Environmental Crisis, at Colby College on April 25th, part of Colby College’s ongoing Environmental Studies Lecture Series.

The talk explored the role comics and other forms of literary-visual art play in our conversations and narratives about the environment. Special focus was given to his ongoing research into the history of animal representation in comics, as well as environmental justice. Doran also discussed the role artists play in expanding our understanding of the cultural dimensions of climate change and how comics art in particular can help us imagine the interconnectedness of past, present, and future in order to advocate, create, and cooperate in our current age of environmental crisis.
