Tiller’s Feature Debut Premieres at SFFILM

Denali Tiller (Critic, Film Animation Video) and Andrew Freiband (Assistant Professor, Film Animation Video) were in San Fransisco for the world premiere of Tiller’s debut feature documentary, Tre Maison Dasan, which was selected for documentary competition in the San Francisco International Film Festival. Freiband was also the film’s Executive Producer, as well as adviser to Tiller’s RISD Film Animation Video Degree Project short film, which was the origin for the feature.

The premiere screening was held at the Dolby Theater, and included appearances by Dasan (of the title), his family, and Joyce Dixson-Haskett, an early inspiration for the project. The film is a view of the lives of three boys who all share the experience of having an incarcerated parent, and reviewing the premiere, Variety and the Hollywood Reporter call Tiller’s work “fresh and heartrending,” “potent and wrenchingly intimate,” and a “searing” directorial debut.

In the coming month Tre Maison Dasan is already scheduled to appear at IFFBoston and the Montclair Film Festival, with more announcements on the way.
