RISD Global: Off-campus Teaching Opportunities

As part of RISD’s commitment to global engagement and awareness within art and design, we are inviting full- and part-time faculty from all divisions to apply to call for proposals for Global Summer Studies 2018, RISD in Rome: EHP Chief Critic AY 2018/19, and RISD in Seoul faculty lead Fall 2018.

RISD Global invites all full- and part-time faculty to join an information session about global opportunities for faculty, which include teaching, learning and research opportunities, to be held at RISD Global on Thursday, September 28th at 12.15pm.


Global Summer Studies 2018

Every summer, RISD Global offers a multi-disciplinary set of Global Summer Studies (GSS) programs that engage RISD students, as well as non-RISD students and professionals, in the exploration of a wide spectrum of topics related to art, design and global thinking under the leadership of RISD faculty. In summer 2017, RISD Global is running 6 Global Summer Studies that engage RISD & non-RISD students with practice and traditions of making in Iceland, Italy, Japan, South Korea and Ireland.

All current RISD faculty (full-time and part-time) are invited to present a proposal for a 3-week course to be offered abroad from June through July 2018.

The Faculty compensation is $8,600, including both teaching and course coordination. RISD will cover the costs of all instructor’s expenses associated with the class as well as those of the TA/RA. If the course is co-taught, the stipend is split 50/50 between faculty members.

Chief critic and Faculty lead position: RISD in Rome, RISD in Seoul

Full- and part-time faculty from all divisions are invited to apply to be the RISD Chief Critic in European Honors Program (EHP) in Rome for the Academic Year 2018/19 or the Faculty lead in the RISD in Seoul program for Fall 2018.

Eligibility requirements for full-time faculty include 3 years and 18 TUs as full-time faculty at RISD, and eligibility requirements for part-time faculty include an accumulated 18 TUs of service as part- time faculty at RISD. A demonstrated interest in working closely with students from various disciplines is a requirement for all applicants. Knowledge of Italy/South Korea and local language is also desirable, but not necessary. Ability and willingness to be flexible is essential.

Stipend, shipping expenses, round trip flight to Rome/ Seoul and accommodation on site are provided by RISD.

Deadline for all applications is Monday, October 2nd, 2017.
