Highfield: Food as Archive

Jonathan Highfield (Professor, Literary Arts and Studies) presented a talk, entitled All Yesterday’s Meals: Food as Archive at the International Symposium on Food Studies: Transnational Conversations at the University of Pretoria, South Africa, 22-23 July 2016.

Highfield’s paper focused on maize in Southern Africa, and connected the Southern African dish known as ‘samp’ to the Narragansett word ‘nausamp’ first recorded in Roger Williams’ A Key Into the Language of America (1643).
