On the Wall: Deborah Zlotsky

PC Galleries at Providence College are proud to present On the Wall: Deborah Zlotsky. In this ambitious commission for PC Galleries, Zlotsky (Associate Professor, Foundation Studies) fills the entire exhibition space—from the floor to the upper reaches of its 20-foot ceiling—with large-scale chalk drawings on blackboard painted walls. “With the layering of her signature geometric forms atop compositional armatures derived from canonical works by Old Masters and contemporary artists alike, this project expresses Zlotsky’s communion with both art history and contemporary abstraction,” says PC Galleries curator Jamilee Polson Lacy. “Demonstrating drawing’s capacity to map anything and everything, it is both a work of art and research which connects today’s artistic experiments with important developments in the visual art of the past.”

June 3 – July 31, 2015
Reilly Gallery, Smith Center for the Arts
Opening Reception: 5 – 7pm, Thursday, June 4
On the Wall: Deborah Zlotsky is the inaugural work in PC Galleries On the Wall series—an annual program of site-specific commissions applied directly to the walls of the Reilly Gallery. The On the Wall series integrates the work of living artists into the cultural and intellectual life of Providence College and introduces important new art to local audiences.
