Hirst solo installation at Kunstverein Baden Galerie

08 May – 28 June 2015
Kunstverein Baden Galerie
Beethovengasse 7, 2500 Baden, Austria

Skywriting, an installation by Leslie Hirst (Associate Professor, Foundation Studies), includes works drawn from the sky and with the sky. On view are fifty-five of the artist’s Airplane Drawings – records of ground patterns seen while looking out of the window of an airplane, executed on magazine pages.
La Menzogna (below) is a photographic collage created during the artist’s visits to the island of Burnao, Italy. The arrangement of images creates another kind of message that describes the materiality of place through language. Based on a quotation from Italo Calvino’s Invisible Cities: “La menzogna non è nel discorso, è nelle cose.”
“Falsehood is never in words, it is in things.”
