“Mental Health in a Global Context” at JWU

Once each academic term, the International Center of Johnson & Wales University holds a Speaker Series to provide educational opportunities for the higher education community to explore global issues and to engage with academics and professionals from other institutions.

This term will be a panel discussion titled “Mental Health in a Global Context” in collaboration with the Counseling Services department, Thursday, April 9 from 9:20-11:15am in the BRIDGE Center.*  They will screen excerpts from the documentary “Hidden Pictures,” followed by a panel discussion focused on how mental illness is viewed in different cultures, as well as the impact that race and culture have on treatment options.  The discussion will be moderated by Prof. Kevin DeJesus, Ph.D. (JWU sociology department) and panelists include:

·         Tuba Agartan, Ph.D., Providence College Health Policy & Management

·         David C. Dove, Ph.D., clinical psychologist

·         Xiaolu Hsi, Ph.D., clinical psychologist, MIT Medical

*The BRIDGE Center is located at 60 Broad Street in Providence.  It is building #3 on the campus map.  On-street metered parking is available.
