Prewitt-Freilino presents gender inequality research

Jennifer Prewitt-Freilino (Associate Professor, History, Philosophy and the Social Sciences) presented her research about the relationship between language and gender inequality at a lecture hosted by Brown’s Department of Cognitive, Linguistic and Psychological Sciences.

Prewitt-Freilino determined that countries where citizens speak gendered languages — in which nouns are masculine or feminine — display a higher rate of gender inequality than countries with languages that do not ascribe gender to nouns.
