Foundation Design Studio installation at Clad In

Pamela Unwin-Barkley (Critic, Foundation Studies) and her 20 freshman design students examined the upcoming spring collection featured at Clad In, located in Wayland Square, Providence, R.I. Most of the students worked in pairs to develop eight different mixed media panels that are 2’ x 3’ and four student developed paintings 20” x 20”. The mixed media panels and the paintings are now installed in the shop and they respond to the color palette and textures found in the collection as well as the interior setting of the shop.

Following the initial site to the shop, each student created a 12” x 12” panel as a response to the collection. Following a studio critique with Leslie Grant (79 AP) the shop manager, most of the students decided to work in pairs to create 8 mixed media panels. In addition, four students exploring color decided to develop four paintings as a collective investigation. The studio discussed ways to combine their individual investigations to create a group installation that will be on display at Clad In until May13th.
