Shaykin’s “The Book in Translation”

Shaykin’s presentation “The Book in Translation” is the latest stop for Reading Across Rhode Island, a statewide reading program that aims to connect readers

This year’s Reading Across Rhode Island book selection, Mr. Penumbra’s 24 Hour Bookstore, by Robin Sloan, is a thrilling adventure with philosophical questions about technology, books and the power both contain. The Winner of the Alex Award, a finalist for the Los Angeles Times Book Prize for First Fiction, Mr. Penumbra’s was also named a Best Book of the Year by NPR, Los Angeles Times, and San Francisco Chronicle.  in classrooms, libraries, and bookstores throughout the state with one book selection, and then engages those readers through local community events. Thursday’s event is FREE and will take place in the Graham Visual + Material Resource Center, Room 204, Fleet Library, Rhode Island School of Design, 15 Westminster Street Providence, RI 02903.

Now in its 11th year, the Reading Across Rhode Island series culminates in the spring with a traditional Rhode Island May Breakfast featuring the author, and a statewide video conference for high school students. Visit for more information.
