FAV Grad Wins RIIFF Grand Prize

Mohammed AlAwadi, FAV ’13, won Grand Prize at the Rhode Island International Film Festival for Director Discovery for his film “Mohammed’s Birds.” In the film, the filmmaker sets out to create a cageless environment inside his apartment for his birds. In the pursuit of expanding his colony of birds he travels to the homes of various breeders, collectors and enthusiasts. Through his interactions and experiences, Mohammed discovers that there is more to these little animals than he ever expected.

The DIRECTORIAL DISCOVERY AWARD is presented to a director whose outstanding work on a first short or feature film represents a new unique and compelling vision that will resonate well into the future.
