Geoffrey Fletcher is the screenwriter of 2009’s award-winning Precious, based on the novel Push by Sapphire. In 2010, he became the first African-American to win the Academy Award for “Best Adapted Screenplay”. He also received the Independent Spirit Award for Best First Screenplay; the Black Reel Award for Best Screenplay, Original or Adapted and the Best Adapted Screenplay award from the Chlotrudis, AAFCA and the Satellite Awards. Geoffrey was also heralded by Variety as one of its “10 Screenwriters to Watch.”
Geoffrey has been an adjunct professor of film at Columbia University and New York University, where he taught courses ranging from “Directing the Camera” to “Developing the Screenplay”. He also has an extensive background in photography and editing. Violet and Daisy is his directorial debut, a film for which he also served as screenwriter and producer.
