Electroacoustic Improvisation: Keith Rowe, Shawn Greenlee, Stephan Moore

The Division of Foundation Studies  is proud to present “An Evening of Electroacoustic Improvisation” featuring Keith Rowe on September 26, 2012 at 8PM in the RISD Auditorium with opening performances by Shawn Greenlee and Stephan Moore.

KEITH ROWE is an English free improvisation tabletop guitarist and painter.  One of the key figures in the history of electroacoustic improvisation and prepared guitar, Rowe is a founding member of the groundbreaking group AMM established in London in 1965, as well as MIMEO, a free improvisation supergroup started in 1997.  Throughout his career, Rowe has utilized painting as a stimulus for generating ideas and as score material for musical performance.  Rowe has worked with composers and musicians including Cornelius Cardew, Christian Wolff, John Tilbury, Evan Parker, Otomo Yoshide, Christian Fennesz, Peter Rehberg, Kaffe Matthews, Rafael Toral, and numerous others.

SHAWN GREENLEE is a sound and electronic media artist. In recent performance and installation work, Greenlee focuses on generating digital audio from graphic patterns. Via computer programs of his own design, he advances new methods for interpreting visual image as sound (graphic synthesis). Further areas of investigation evident in his work include psychoacoustic phenomena, sonic environments, sound synthesis, telecommunications, and noise.  Greenlee is Assistant Professor of Foundation Studies at the Rhode Island School of Design.

STEPHAN MOORE is a composer, improvisor, audio artist, sound designer, teacher, and curator based in Brooklyn and Providence. His creative work currently manifests as electronic studio compositions, solo and group improvisations, sound installation works, scores for collaborative performance pieces, and sound designs for unusual circumstances.  He is a curator at Issue Project Room in Brooklyn, where he also serves on the Art Advisory Board. From late 2004 to mid-2010, he performed over 250 concerts with the Merce Cunningham Dance Company, serving as a touring musician, sound engineer, and music coordinator.
