"Spontaneous Interventions" at the 2012 Venice Biennale

Lauren Crahan (Critic, Architecture) and John Hartmann (Critic, Architecture) are the architects of the US Pavilion at the 2012 Venice Biennale.

The Venice Biennale has been promoting new artistic trends and organizing international events in contemporary arts for over a century, since its founding in 1895 and the launch of its first International Art Exhibition that year. In the 1930s new Music, Cinema and Theatre festivals were formed, followed by an inaugural International Architecture Exhibition in 1980.

For the Pavilion design, Crahan and Hartmann created an engaging installation spanning five galleries with a system of 124 banners suspended from an open scaffold.Visitors physically engage with the work by pulling the banners down to view the material.

The 2012 Architecture Biennale will be held from August 29th to November 25th, 2012
