Matthew Monk new Academic Dean of VCFA

Matthew Monk (Professor, Graphic Design) has been named Academic Dean of Vermont College for Fine Arts (VCFA).  At VCFA the Academic Dean is the Chief Academic Officer of the College and oversees all academic programs.  VCFA is a national, low-residency center for graduate fine arts education located in Montpelier, Vermont. VCFA is the first college in the country devoted entirely to the low-residency model of graduate arts education, offering Masters of Fine Arts degrees in Graphic Design, Music Composition, Visual Art, Writing, and Writing for Children & Young Adults.

Monk joined RISD’s Graphic Design faculty in 1990 as an adjunct faculty member and as a full-time faculty member in 2000. He served as Acting Department Head of the Department of Graphic Design 2006/07. Matt has also taught in Foundation Studies. Additionally Matt served as a member of the Faculty Meeting Steering Committee. He has been nominated multiple times for the Frazier Award for Teaching Excellence.
