Gloria Jean Masciarotte awarded RICH planning grant
Gloria-Jean Masciarotte (Senior Lecturer, English) has been awarded a planning grant from Rhode Island Council for the Humanities for her film project “‘Getting away with it…’ Lucy Truman Aldrich’s Weekend with Chinese Bandits”. Lucy Truman Aldrich (1869-1955) was an active art collector and donated much of her collection of Asian porcelain and textiles to RISD’s Museum of Art. A Rhode Island native, she was the oldest child of U.S. Senator Nelson Aldrich, and the sister of Abby Aldrich Rockefeller, one of the founders of the Museum of Modern Art. Like her beloved sister, Lucy used the privileges of her class to escape its protected luxury and conventional expectations.
