A different kind of laptop program for refugees
The Refugee Resettlement department of the International Institute of Rhode Island helps people whose lives have been painfully disrupted by the worst events of war and genocide. The families that make it here to Rhode Island do not linger impatiently at baggage claim when they arrive at Green Airport. Often they have only what they’re wearing. The International Institute helps them for a few months with the essential necessities: medical care, a temporary housing subsidy, English lessons, and food. Then they’re on their own. But especially for the kids entering American public schools for the very first time, and for the families who are using the internet to stay in touch with family
members who could not accompany them or who had to be resettled to completely different countries, laptops can help ease the transition.
The International Institute is looking for working laptops to issue refugee families. The IIRI will provide a charitable-gift donation form. If you have a laptop that you would like to donate or are interested in more information about the International Institute of Rhode Island, please visit their website: www.IIRI.org
