Damian White on Design, Politics and Sustainability
Damian White (Associate Professor of Sociology , Department of History, Philosophy and Social Science) was invited to speak at a colloquium on ‘Design, Politics and Sustainability’ at the Design History Annual Conference in Barcelona, Spain, 7th-10th September, 2011. At Barcelona he delivered a paper which critically evaluated the recent work of Design Theorist Tony Fry, notably: ‘Design Futuring’ (Berg, 2009) and ‘Design as Politics’ (Berg, 2011). An essay he co-wrote with Gideon Kossoff entitled “Anarchisme, libertarisme et environnementalisme. La pensée anti-autoritaire et la quête de sociétés auto-organisées” was just published in the September issue of the French journal Écologie & Politique n° 41 / 2011.
