Andrew Law and Eduardo Benamor Duarte appointed to the full-time faculty
The searches for new full-time faculty in Industrial Design and Interior Architecture have now concluded.
Andrew Law has been appointed Associate Professor, Industrial Design. Law received his BA from SGIHE in Cardiff, Wales and his MDes from the Royal College of Art in London. He has taught at the Edinburgh College of Art, University of Dundee, and Glasgow School of Art among other schools. He held research fellowships at Goldsmith’s College and the Royal College of Art. The Sodurga project he collaborated on with Mark Stringer received funding from the Royal College of Art, the Research Development Fund, and from the UK Technology Strategy Board. He has most recently researched and published on how people interact, adapt and create uses for clearly functioning objects. He has “found that every person has the desire to develop and create ‘stuff’ and uses for ‘stuff’.” His current research is focused on an accessible and navigable network of people wishing to participate in the commission, design and manufacture of goods. Along these lines he is a participant product planner for GET IT MADE a web-based service for recruiting and assisting amateurs, designers, and engineers to propose and produce products.
Eduardo Benamor Duarte has been appointed Assistant Professor, Interior Architecture. He received his BA from the Universidade Tecnica de Lisboa and his Masters of Science from Columbia University. Duarte served a Critic in RISD’s Department of Interior Architecture during the 2010/11and taught previously at the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and the California College of Arts. He has been a practicing architect since 1999. At Skidmore, Owings, and Merrill he worked on the Master Plan for City College (NYC), the Palazzo Condominium in Las Vegas, and public spaces in the Lotte Super Tower Hotel in South Korea. While working for Acconci Studio, Inc., Vito Acconci principal, he worked on projects for the Bronx Museum Lobby and a competition for the Taipei Performing Arts Center.
