Anaïs Missakian named Interim Dean of Fine Arts

Anaïs Missakian has been appointed Interim Dean of Fine Arts for the academic year 2011/12 by Provost Jessie Shefrin.  She graduated with honors from RISD in 1984 and also studied at Central Saint Martins in London and Michigan State University.  Professor Missakian has been teaching at RISD since 1990.  She served as Graduate Coordinator from 2000-04 and as Department Head of the Department of Textiles since 2004.  Her extensive committee service includes work on RISD’s Instruction Committee, Academic Standing Committee, Financial Aid Committee, European Honors Committee, the Committee for Faculty Appointments and numerous search committees.

Professor Missakian has spent the last 25 years working as a consultant designing textile collections for the interior design industry. She spent six years in New York working as a designer for textile companies that include Decorator’s Walk and China Seas.  Her recent work includes the design and production of printed and woven interior fabrics for Laura Lienhard, Inc.  Missakian’s other clients include Sunbury Textile Mills, Quaker Fabric Corporation, Malden Mills, Martex, Macy’s and Westpoint Stevens. She has also served as Director of Industry on the Board of the Surface Design Association.
