Michael Ashkin’s work circulates around ideas of social, economic and political exclusion and abandonment, presenting the viewer with desolate, yet clearly utilitarian, architectures and landscapes of unspecified locations. His work has been shown in exhibitions around the globe, including Documenta 11 and the Whitney Biennial (1997). His work is the subject of recent exhibitions at Secession, Vienna and the Herbert F. Johnson Museum of Art, Cornell University. Ashkin is Director of Graduate Studies in the Department of Art at Cornell University, College of Architecture, Art, and Planning.
