New faces in Academic Affairs

Stacy A. Riseman is RISD’s first Director of Grants and Contracts for Rhode Island School of Design.  Stacy holds a B.S. in Business Administration from Roger Williams University and a MBA from Salve Regina University. Prior to this position, she was at Franklin W. Olin College of Engineering as the Director of Sponsored Programs where she served as the point of contact for all services related to research administration such as funding opportunities, proposal submissions, post award administration, and grant accounting.  Worcester Polytechnic Institute, Henry Jackson Foundation for Military Medicine, and Brown University are also places where Stacy has directed and administered grants and contracts.  She has been in research administration for over 22 years and is still standing!

Sumnima Rai has joined Academic Affairs as a temporary administrative assistant–a position vacated by Candy Rodriguez in 2009. She was born in Kathmandu, Nepal and attended a boarding school in Jaipur (the pink city), Rajasthan, India through high school. Jaipur is in fact the first planned city in India despite Chandigarh’s claims. After high school, Sumi went to Jesus & Mary College in New Delhi for her Bachelors of Arts in world history. Having lived abroad for much of her life, she speaks 3 languages with great fluency. Upon graduation, Sumi returned to Nepal to gather some professional experience and worked for the World Wildlife Federation Nepal.  She tells us that in Nepal and India “an education is never considered complete until one has obtained a Masters Degree”.  So in the next chapter, we find Sumi in the United States pursuing a Masters in Business Administration from Johnson & Wales University. She graduated last November with an MBA  in Global Marketing. Prior to working at RISD Academic Affairs she worked at the Brown Medical School.
