Jonathan Knowles and students in the news
During Spring Break Jonathan Knowles (Assistant Professor, Architecture) and his Advanced Studio students worked with their counterparts at the Erfurt University of Applied Sciences on Passive House construction and planning–now the international standard for energy conservation. Students from both institutions will enter an international competition for a sustainable skyscraper to be located in Lower Manhattan. The RISD students proposed a design of multi-family housing in Erfurt during their visit. Their one-day joint charrette at the Erfurt City Planning office was covered by the daily newspaper Erfurter Allgemeine. Knowles received a grant from the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) to help defray the costs of this travel study opportunity for his students.
