National Coming Out Day- Candlelight Vigil + Open Mic
Dear Campus Community,
Monday, October 11th is National Coming Out Day. In honor of this day and the recent deaths of members of the Lesbian Gay Bisexual Transgender Queer (LGBTQ) community the Queer Student Alliance, Student Development & Counseling Services and the Office of Crime Prevention are co-sponsoring a Candlelight Vigil + Open Mic at 7:30pm at the RISD Beach (Corner of Waterman & Benefit Street). We are asking the campus community to come together to show support for RISD’s LGBTQ community and to remember those who have chosen to end their lives. There will be a short candlelight vigil followed by an open mic for people to share their thoughts, feelings, poems, songs, etc. of support. All are welcome. Candles will be provided. If you would like to share something in support of our LGBTQ community, please contact Shauna Summers at 454-6637 or via firstname.lastname@example.org. Look out for upcoming sessions sponsored by Student Affairs on Becoming an Ally and Creating Safe Zones for students, faculty & staff.
