Yuriko Saito speaks in China
Yuriko Saito (Professor, HPSS) presented a paper entitled “Future Directions for Environmental Aesthetics” at the 18th International Congress of Aesthetics held at Peking University in early August. Her travel to China was supported by the Conference Fund, Liberal Arts Humanities Fund, and HPSS Department. A longer version of the same paper was published in Environmental Values (Vol. 19, No. 3, Aug. 2010). In both, she argues for the need for environmental aesthetics discourse to expand its reach by exploring everyday objects and activities that make up our lived environment, cultivating aesthetic literacy and normative discourse, and gaining different viewpoints and wisdom from various cultural traditions.
