Alan Michelson named 2011 Eiteljorg Invited Artist Fellow

The Eiteljorg Museum of American Indians and Western Art honored Alan Michelson (Senior Critic, Foundation Studies) as its invited artist for the 2011 Eiteljorg Fellowship for Native American Fine Art. In this biennial program, an independent jury selects four contemporary artists and one invited artist as fellows. Each will receive an unrestricted $25,000 honorarium to facilitate his or her continued growth as a creative artist.  In addition, the museum will purchase significant work by each fellow for its permanent collection of contemporary Native American art, and mount a special exhibition showcasing the fellows’ work.

The Eiteljorg Museum of American Indians and Western Art opened in Indianapolis in 1989 to inspire the appreciation and understanding of the art, history and cultures of the American West and the indigenous peoples of North America.  The 2011 Eiteljorg Fellowship exhibition will run from November 12, 2011-February 12, 2012, and will include work by Michelson and the four other fellows–Bonnie Devine, Skawennati Fragnito, Duane Slick, and Anna Tsouhlarakis.
