RISD's Solar Decathlon house cited in National Building Museum article
The National Building Museum has just published an article about the US Department of Energy’s Solar Decathlon. In 2005 RISD was invited to participate in the Decathlon, an international competition amongst institutions of higher education to model efficient, sound, and pleasing homes that integrate solar technology. Architecture faculty Jonathan Knowles and Wil Yoder shepherded RISD’s project through two semesters of development in studio and hot summer months of construction preceding the October 2005 event. Susan Piedmont-Palladino writes that RISD’s entry “became the only house in the Village envisioned as a model for compact development” rather than a stand alone, inefficient single family dwelling.
