Rose Gives Keynote at STEAMHouse Research Event

Chris Rose (Senior Critic, Furniture Design) was invited to give the opening Keynote address for the research day set to explore the scope of Birmingham City University’s new $20 million UK / EU funded creative regeneration and adaptive reuse project beginning at the site of the former Typhoo Tea factory in the city center.

Described as an ‘un-disciplinary space with art and design at its core, focussed on cultural, commercial and socially useful production’, The STEAMHouse scheme combines arts, sciences, research and collaborative makerspaces together with a new regional doctoral degree scheme all under one roof.

Rose shared some of the RISD experience of continuing to develop Science-Arts programs and international knowledge networks with representatives of the different university departments involved. Birmingham STEAMHous project partners include VAMK University of Applied Sciences Finland and Aalborg University Denmark.
