Ganguly Begins Fellowship in Berlin
Avishek Ganguly (Assistant Professor, Literary Arts + Studies) recently began his 10-month term as a Fellow at the International Research Center at the Freie Universität in Berlin, Germany. During the period of his fellowship Ganguly will work on his book manuscript ‘Polyglot Performances: Translation and the Post-Monolingual Stage’. This comparative project offers new ways of thinking about translation with regard to contemporary theater and performance that not only highlight the formal and material specificities of the act but also its importance as a profoundly ethical and political gesture.
Funded by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research, the multi-year project at the Center titled ‘Interweaving Performance Cultures’ closely collaborates with Berlin’s most innovative theaters, its leading spaces for dance and the arts, as well as with various academic institutions, and invites a small cohort of international Fellows to be in residence every year.
