Cavicchi Appointed Associate Provost Research|Global|Practice

Provost Sharma is pleased to announce that Daniel Cavicchi (Dean, Liberal Arts) will be appointed as the new Associate Provost of Research|Global|Practice. He will take up his new position on 1st July 2017 and will take on oversight of the following areas:

  • Research

  • Partnered Projects and Executive Education – led by Daniel Hewett. Lizzi Ross, Associate Director of Executive Education will report to Daniel Hewett.

  • Global – led by Gwen Farrelly

  • Continuing Education – led by Sarah Caggiano

  • Careers – led by Kevin Jankowski

Provost Sharma reflecting on Cavicchi’s work said “I have admired his ability to work collegially across departments, and to develop and manage strategic agendas with humor, dignity and with academic integrity. I believe that Daniel has a good sense of what goes on in the studio to be helpful but not meddling. He also has an excellent grasp on the issues that our faculty have regarding workload and expectations. Strategically, by asking Daniel to step directly into this position I believe we can hit the ground running and prototype what this role at RISD could look like.”

Cavicchi’s public work has included exhibits for the Grammy Museum and Grammy Mississippi; curricula for Experience Music Project and PBS; a new book series at Wesleyan University Press; and service for nonprofits, including FirstWorks and the Rhode Island Council for the Humanities. He has been involved in several interdisciplinary research initiatives at RISD, most notably the Witness Tree Project, an innovative history and design curriculum with the National Park Service. He was also a key participant in RISD’s recent year-long curricular collaboration with LEGO Education in Denmark.
