Zlotsky “Ephemera” collage works, Florence

Deborah Zlotsky (Associate Professor, Foundation Studies) won SACI’s first International Art Exhibition Award 2015. The solo exhibition runs from July 2 – 30 in the SACI Gallery at the Palazzo dei Cartelloni in Florence.

Inspired by Italy and the traditions of Arte Povera, Zlotsky’s exhibition, Ephemera, focuses on collages made from everyday materials. She manipulated paper towels, newspapers, plastic bags, and other commonplace items, exploring the ephemeral and peculiar qualities of each and reinventing surfaces and relationships. In her current studio research, Zlotsky typically works in a responsive way to build visual connections and complexity, however, in these new works, she discovered working with found materials intensified the performative and time-based aspects of this approach.
