Henry Horenstein (Professor, Photography and Illustration) screened his documentary SPOKE this fall at the Austin Film Festival and the Alexandria Film Festival. The film premiered in the summer at the Annenberg Space for Photography in Los Angeles.
Spoke traces the storied 50-year history of one of Austin’s must illustrious music venues, the Broken Spoke. The documentary includes interviews with the honky-tonk dancehall’s owners James and Annetta White as well as musicians Jesse Dayton, Cornell Hurd, and Dale Watson. Spoke is a companion piece to the traveling exhibit “Honky Tonk” and the book “Honky Tonk: Portraits of Country Music.”
