Daniel Heyman (Senior Critic, Printmaking) will be in Israel at the Shenkar University of Engineering, Art, Design from June 2 through July 8. Heyman has been invited by artist Orit Hofshi to give a lecture and a workshop, and be the artist in residency for the month. Princeton University Lewis Center for the Arts has awarded a travel and research grant to support the residency, and Shenkar University is supporting housing and food.
Heyman will also be doing research for a project of mono prints, relief prints and etching prints all printed on hydrocal-plaster, supported through a RISD Professional Development Grant. The subject of the project lays in the conflict between personal and national loyalties, and is ongoing in its development. He will be interviewing both Jewish Israelis as well as Palestinians asking, “Could you fall in love with someone who belongs to a group that is a traditional enemy of your country?” “Is national and ethnic loyalty immutable?”
