Brooklyn, NY 11222
February 7th – February 27th
Opening Reception: February 7th, 7-9 pm

“Cloudy is the stuff of stones” is a new body of work based upon the emulation of natural forces through alchemical processes. In the endeavor to expedite natural phenomena, time and space is compressed using empirical approaches of craft and chemistry. This work involved mining minerals from surrounding natural resources, refining materials using alchemical apparatus from the manuscripts of Antonio Neri (alchemist and glassmaker of the 16th century), and studying early scientific methodologies for emulating earthly phenomena. Attempting to recreate James Hutton’s granite fusion experiments using compression and slow cooling during his studies of geology and deep time, Stefanie continues to explore the universality of cyclical patterns in material process.
