November “Mapping Learning” Events Scheduled

We are pleased to invite you to “Mapping Learning,” a series of public talks, panels, and workshops that provide opportunities for faculty, students, and staff to reflect on changing contexts of learning at RISD. How do our institutional and disciplinary traditions shape particular kinds of understanding, identity, and practice? How do students’ diverse learning experiences–in the classroom, workshop, and studio–add up? How might new theories of cognition, participation, or “unlearning” spark new approaches to education? Please join with your colleagues in these collective conversations about teaching, learning, and RISD.

Workshop: Measuring Learning: Departmental Assessment Appropriate to Art and Design Fields
With Barbara Walvoord
Wednesday, November 20 at 4:30 in Waterman room 11

This event is particularly relevant to Department Heads and Faculty. Barbara Walvoord is a widely published author of articles and books on assessment in higher education. In the workshop, tailored for RISD, she will facilitate discussion about how we measure art and design learning. In particular, participants will be able to construct or revise assessment plans for their departments and programs, building on the assessment they already conduct.
