Tribute to Mahler B. Ryder during RISD by Design weekend

RISD will pay tribute to the late Mahler B. Ryder (http://risdoma.org/featured/a-tribute-to-the-late-mahler-b-ryder/) during RISD by Design weekend October 14-16, 2011. Many people in RISD’s history have championed student diversity and Mahler Ryder was a pioneer. Professor of Illustration from 1969 to 1992, Mahler was an accomplished artist, dynamic professor, and passionate advocate of access and equality for students of color.

The Office of Multicultural Affairs warmly invites you to acknowledge Professor Ryder’s legacy at a brunch to be held on Sunday, October 16 from 11am-1:30pm. The event is free but RSVP is required by October 7th. Please confirm your attendance at:rbd.risd.edu/register.  A curated exhibition of Professor Ryder’s work will be on view at the Illustration Studies Gallery.

Because Mahler was an influential force among his peers and students, the Office of Multicultural Affairs is collecting thoughts from those who knew him. If you would like to share a thought or a short story about Mahler, please email it to diverse@risd.edu. Several venues will be used to remember and document Mahler’s lasting contributions.
